How to get here

Orkney is easily accessible by Ferry and Air.


There are three car ferry services and also a foot passenger service to Orkney. These are as follows:
Pentland Ferries - This runs from Gills Bay (near John O Groats) to St Margarets Hope, and is the closest ferry service to Navnlos Hus. There are 3/4 sailings a day depending on the season.
Northlink Ferries - There are two services available. Firstly from Scrabster (Thurso) to Stromness. There are 3/4 sailings a day depending on the season. Secondly from Aberdeen to Kirkwall three times a week. There are 3/4 sailings a week depending on the season.
John O' Groats - This is a foot passenger ferry from John O' Groats to Burwick (South Ronaldsay). There are 3/4 sailings a day depending on the season.


Flybe provide several services from mainland Scotland. Flights originate from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. There are also flights from Sunburgh (Shetland) and Bergen (Norway)

Getting Around

Getting around Orkney is easy by car. There are miles of well surfaced roads and interesting places to explore. This is equally true for bicycles. Cars and bicycles can be readily hired.
